The high-traffic areas in your home like hallways, entrances, and staircases face more dirt than the others. And so, the carpeting in those areas tends to get easily dirty more often. That makes it obvious that your carpet in high-traffic areas will need more attention.

And so, our experts from Complete Floor Care have brought some tips to maintain carpets in high-traffic areas.

6 Tips on Maintaining Carpets in High Traffic Areas

  1. Lay Rugs And Mats

One of the best ways to minimize the dirt getting into your carpet is by placing rugs and mats. We advise placing area rugs in heavily used areas and mats at the entry points.

They will trap most of the outside dirt and act as a barrier between the soil and your carpet.

Unlike your carpet, you can clean them easily and more often while they will keep the cleanliness of your carpet intact all the time.

  2. Vacuum More Often

If there is one proven way to keep dirt off your carpet, that would be vacuuming. High-traffic zones hold more dirt, and regular vacuuming will remove it from the surface before it gets deep into the fibers. That helps reduce the damage and extend the life of your carpet .

In high-traffic areas, we recommend vacuuming twice a week to maintain it well. Vacuuming more often will also prevent forming those ugly traffic lanes on your carpet.

Additionally, we suggest paying more attention when cleaning such areas. Go multiple rounds if once is not enough. Go slow and use proper suction to clean your high-traffic areas properly and maintain them well.

3. Clean Spills Immediately

Cleaning spills quickly is more crucial in heavily used carpeting than in any other area. That is because when you keep the spills left, the traffic moving across it will push it more deeply, and that will cause permanent staining.

We always urge you to blot the spills as soon as they happen and clean them quickly before they settle.

4. Use Stain Protection

As we know certain areas are more prone to dirt and stains. And no matter how aware we are, the staining occurs again and again. To prevent the stains from settling in the backing and making your cleaning easier, you should have stain protection applied especially in high-traffic areas of your carpet. It will significantly reduce the damage of repetitive wear and tear.

5. Start A No-Shoes Policy

The most common source of heavy piles of dirt in your carpet is the shoes that drag the outside mud and dirt into its fibers. And to maintain your carpet in high-traffic areas, we strongly recommend starting a no-shoes policy in your home.

By doing this, you are reducing a lot of incoming dirt getting attracted by your carpet and keeping it in a much cleaner state.

6. Call Pros For Deep Cleaning

High-traffic areas are much more stubborn to clean. When the stains and dirt get pushed deep into the fibers, your carpet will need a periodic deep cleaning by our experts.

We, at Complete Floor Care, use the thorough process of hot water extraction to pull out ingrained filth from those areas. We suggest giving your carpet a deep cleaning at least twice a year to maintain your carpet in high-traffic areas.
